United Nations rotate curve on war against AIDS

The United Nations described Thursday who enlarges the disease, smaller number of those are dying. Fewer people are contracting AIDS worldwide.

“It was a bold vision – some even called it a dream – but the world deserves no less than a future of zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related death,” the UN said in its latest report on AIDS.

“New infections among children have declined dramatically for the second year in a row,” the report stated. Of the estimated 1.5 million pregnant women living with HIV in low- and middle-income countries in 2011, 57% received effective antiretroviral drugs to prevent transmission of HIV to their children – up from 48% in 2010. With the momentum being generated by the Global Plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children by 2015 and keeping their mothers alive, the international community has set a strong course to achieve an AIDS-free generation.”

A revolution in treatment of HIV has turned the spread of the disease around, the UN said.

“A decade of antiretroviral treatment has transformed HIV from a death sentence to a manageable chronic disease,” the UN said. There is a real opportunity to eliminate new infections among children within the next three years, and our goal to ensure that 15 million people receive antiretroviral therapy by 2015 can be achieved.”

Olympic Village,London

Olympic organizers are making final preparations for the July 16 opening of residential areas in London’s East End, which are expected to accommodate as many as 16,000 people during the games.

Competitors and officials from more than 200 countries will be housed in the athletes’ village in the Olympic Park,which includes:

2,818 apartments,
28,000 duvets,
22,000 pillows,
9,000 wardrobes.

Mayor Boris Johnson said “Things are infinitely better today than they were when we last invited the world to London in 1948,”at a press conference yesterday.He also said that We didn’t even have a village in 1948.The athlates had to bring their own towels and they had to bunk up in school classrooms in West London.”

Apartments range from one to five bedrooms and some athletes will share a room, according to the London Organizing Committee of the Games. The athletes will sleep in single beds, some of which are extendable for taller Olympians, the organizer said.



London Mayor Johnson was offered a haircut, which he declined in favor of a manicure. The salon shares the street with a newsstand, dry cleaner and postal service. The bar, called The Globe, only serves non-alcoholic drinks.

U.K. developer Delancey Estates Plc and Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Co., a unit of the Middle East country’s sovereign wealth fund, agreed to buy the athlete’s village in August for 557 million pounds ($860 million) for conversion into private homes following the games. As part of the deal, the buyers can build an additional 2,000 residential units on the site.

Diabetese drug

When the body cannot maintain normal blood glucose levels is generally caused of diabetic mellifluousness.

Insulin is a hormone which transport glucose from the blood into the cell.When the body is unable to produce enough insulin then the blood glucose level rises.

The three main types of diabetes mellitus (DM) are:

Type 1 DM results from the body's failure to produce insulin, and presently requires the person to inject insulin. (Also referred to as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or "juvenile" diabetes)

Type 2 DM results from insulin resistance, a condition in which cells fail to use insulin properly, sometimes combined with an absolute insulin deficiency. (Formerly referred to as noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or "adult-onset" diabetes)

Gestational diabetes is when pregnant women, who have never had diabetes before, have a high blood glucose level during pregnancy. It may precede development of type 2 DM.  

Diabetes affects nearly 346 million, and many of these are not aware they have the disease. If undetected or poorly controlled, diabetes can lead to blindness, kidney failure, lower limb amputation, heart attack, stroke and impotence.
