Neil Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930. He died on August 25, 2012, at a hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Neil Alden Armstrong was an American NASA astronaut, test pilot, aerospace engineer, university professor and United States Naval Aviator.

Before becoming an astronaut, Armstrong was in the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. After the war, he served as a test pilot at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) High-Speed Flight Station. Now known as the Dryden Flight Research Center, where he flew over 900 flights in a variety of aircraft.

Neil Armstrong graduated from Purdue University and the University of Southern California. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco.

He was Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati between 1971-1979. During the years 1982-1992, Armstrong was chairman of Computing Technologies for Aviation, Inc., Charlottesville, Va.
